Hi folks, I have a MK2.5 Focus, 1.6 TDCi from 2010. It's the pre-DPF model. It has developed recently an annoying fault, whereby when I am driving along regardless of speed or engine load. The centre screen pops up with 'Engine Malfunction!' when it does this the car makes the alarm noise like yo
I have 7 codes in total, I cleared them and the EML went out but reappeared after driving and all 7 codes are back. They are listed as follows: P2584 - Fuel additive control module requested Mil Illumination. U0118 - Lost communication with fuel additive control module.
I have had this problem on my Automatic Ford Focus "06" plate for the last few weeks, again seem to experience loss of power particularly at low speeds, was 150+ miles away from home when the car shuddered and the Engine System Failure message was displayed. restarting the engine it seem fine and I drove the miles home on the M1.
However his car would not rev at all in response to pressing the pedal down, the pedal pot had two tracks inside it which send a precise amount of voltage to tell the ECU how far the pedal is being depressed, the ECU then with the various readings determines the fuel and air ratio and adjust the fueling as required.
Hey Adam, months back when I got my mk6.5 fiesta zetec s 1.6 TDCi it was left on the driveway for 2 months and was driven in and out the garage until my insurance renewal came up for my previous car. At one point the engine light came on and the code was to do with the Egr. Try deleting the code with the diagnostic tool as I deleted the code

Looking at those codes: P02E9 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit High. This seems to usually relate to a flap or valve on the Intake side of the engine.
The fault is almost cleared from the ECU when disconnected and the engine light is often not displayed. if the battery is left connected it will display this fault and start in limp mode so the battery needs to be disconnected overnight to erase the fault in the ECU.
The reason for my DPF problems was (and still is!) short, cold journeys, it meant the DPF kept filling up quickly and trying to regen very frequently, this caused the glowplugs and EGR problems, and kept diluting the oil with diesel due to failing regens If you use yours 'properly' for a regular motorway commute or similar, it should be fine.
If you wanted problem free and ease of use / servicing you should have gone for the 1.8TDCI. But same with any car, keep up with the servicing etc. I am assuming it is the MK2 focus? If it is the hatchback, check for water ingress into the boot. It can come in through the rear lights, 3rd brake light/spoiler. The main issues will be rust.
